Surfing is not just a hobby for the summer

October 13th, 2009

The autumn and winter seasons are not the traditional seasons for surfing. In fact, we are far more likely to get wrapped up in our big coats and scarves than kit ourselves out in the latest surfing Quiksilver clothes. As soon as the temperature drops, we are all rushing to stock up our winter wardrobe.

But believe it or not, keen surfers are still enjoying their favourite hobby. In fact, the Association of Surfing Professionals world surfing tour has just concluded in Les Bourdaines and it seems that one particular surfer was the star of the show.

Mike Fanning created a wave at the event by claiming his second title during the tour. He defeated finalist Bede Durbidge despite the rough weather conditions. In the end, Fanning scored rides of 7.83, 8.83 and 7.33. Impressive, given the conditions he faced.

So before you dismiss surfing as a summer time hobby and drag those big scarves from the back of the wardrobe, just remember that if the waves are good enough for Mike Fanning, they should be good enough for you. So dig out your surf Quiksilver clothes and get ready to ride those waves.
