Taking up writing
If you find yourself with lots of time on your hands, why not start writing a novel?
This is a huge undertaking but anyone who has ever fulfilled their ambition of writing a decent novel will tell you what a satisfying achievement it is.
The biggest challenge when writing a book is figuring out what to write about. It may be a good idea to head to a creative writing class, or even take a whole course on the subject. Join an online forum and discuss your ideas with other budding writers, and remember to write down every good plot twist or character detail you think of.
Writing a novel requires a lot of commitment and determination, but you’ll be so proud of yourself when you finish.
New Hobbies | Comment (0)Learning a language as your new hobby
Some of the best hobbies are those that can teach you a new skill, as well as being enjoyable. This is why so many people enjoy taking up sports, crafts and even learning a new language.
There are many courses available online and in the real world for learning a new language. Unless you are lucky enough to know someone who is fluent in French, Italian, Spanish, German, Japanese or whatever language you want to learn, you should prepare yourself for some initial costs.
However, just think about what you can do with your new language skills. It can help your career prospects, and you may even be able to move to another country.

You can start a new hobby at any time of the year, but summer and the good weather it brings allows you to enjoy a wider range of new pastimes.
Why not try:
• A new sport like golf, cricket, volleyball or even ultimate Frisbee – anything that gets your outdoors enjoying the fresh air!
• Photography or painting – there are plenty of gorgeous scenes to capture during summer, so why not commit them to print or canvas?
• Surfing – head to the seaside and get stuck in!
• Skateboarding or roller skating – just make sure you put in lots of practice, and remember to wear the appropriate safety gear.

If you’re taking up a new hobby – be it a sport, craft or any other weird and wonderful new pastime – it could be a good idea to start with a friend.
There are many benefits to this, such as getting to spend some quality time with your friend over a shared interest, or having someone to go with you to a class in your new hobby where you don’t know anyone.
Starting a hobby with a friend makes the whole experience much more social, giving you someone with whom to talk about your new interest and share your ideas and excitement
New Hobbies | Comment (0)Avoid magic as a new hobby – unless you have easily-impressed kids
When considering trying a new hobby, magic is often one of the first things people think of. They imagine that they will pick it up quickly, have fun and impress all their friends and family at every social gathering. Sadly, it doesn’t always work out this way.
The reality is that it can take a really long time to learn even the most basic of tricks. These are definitely not entertaining, and you may find yourself boring the pants off everyone you know. You won’t be the life and soul of the party, I’m sorry to say, you’ll simply be a grown adult with no friends doing cheesy card tricks.
