Hobbies learnt in values

June 29th, 2010

A hobby is something that can be taught, or learnt. A lot of the make up which makes us ‘us’, comes from learnt values and norms from society and people. The main people who teach us these values are our parents, friends and colleagues. From a young age, we may learn our first few hobbies. For example, a father may have a keen interest in fishing, and in return, brings out his child/children to go fishing with him, not only for company, but to see if they may also have an interest in the sport. We also learn hobbies on our own.

What is a hobby?

June 29th, 2010

A hobby is something that everyone has. It is something in our life which we carry out regularly and enjoyably. Types of hobbies include: listening to music, being sporty, working, reading, exercising and watching the TV. A hobby is something we either gain from personal experience, or values which we learn from friends, society or family. A hobby can be carried out individually, or in a group. A person can have as many as twenty or more hobbies, it depends on the person’s type of enjoyment. Hobbies can last a lifetime, as, if someone is happy with their hobby, then there is no problem in changing it.

Hobbies in sport

A lot of people have a hobby in a particular area of sport. Being sporty means being active, competitive and fit. Sports can take large part of people’s lives, some even do it for a living. Jobs in sports include: tennis players, badminton players, swimmers, footballers, cricketers and rugby players. A person can view their job as a hobby, as most do in sports, as, not only is it a fun hobby, but it is also a healthy one. People who don’t have a job in sports though can also enjoy their hobby. Taking part in their favourite sport at leisure centres, fields or other sporty events is a usual for individuals with a liking for it.

Hobbies genetic?

June 29th, 2010

Hobbies and interests could be seen as genetic. If an individual is very athletic, fit, and sporty, then that individual’s parents are usually fairly active as well, though not always. In general, black men and women have fast twitch fibres in their muscles, making them faster athletes than the average white male or female. Of course, if a white male has a large interest in athletics, then their speed would increase, though maybe not general skill. One’s genetic make up can sometimes be a reason for their interest in an activity, though some view this as false or even untrue.

Can things we dislike become a hobby?

June 29th, 2010

Most hobbies that we come across, we don’t always believe we would enjoy. Many people assume the activities and interests that they would, and wouldn’t like to participate in. For example. An individual may love playing basketball, and the individual’s friend may enjoy horse riding; if the two individuals exchanged their hobbies for the day to try it out, they may find that they do in fact enjoy the activity, and therefore gaining a new hobby. Of course there is going to be activities that we would never like and never want to call a hobby, but that is what makes each and every one of us different.
