If you think that you’re too old for making model cars or stamp collecting why don’t you try urban exploration (urbex)?
As an urban explorer your time will spent investigating parts of a city or town that very few people get to see. This can include derelict buildings, disused hospitals, underground tunnels or forgotten structures and pieces of land. The common theme is usually the exploration of places that are off-limits!
Those who partake in the hobby/sport either do it for architectural and historical interest or to just try and spook themselves.

If all this seems like the type of thing that you’d like to try please visit the following site for more information and advice.

A hobby is something that can be taught, or learnt. A lot of the make up which makes us ‘us’, comes from learnt values and norms from society and people. The main people who teach us these values are our parents, friends and colleagues. From a young age, we may learn our first few hobbies. For example, a father may have a keen interest in fishing, and in return, brings out his child/children to go fishing with him, not only for company, but to see if they may also have an interest in the sport. We also learn hobbies on our own.

One thing that really annoys me when I am out walking my dog is the lack of consideration to other people, by some individuals when scooping up the mess that there dog’s leave behind.

Its great that they do use a bag to scoop it up but for heavens sake, don’t just throw the bag on the floor!!! The bag of dog mess will then just sit there for eternity until some poor sole decides to pick it up and remove it. If they just intend to leave it there anyway then don’t scoop it and give nature and the rain a chance to wash it away.

What doesn’t help the cause though is the fact that our local council cant be bothered to empty the bins they provide to dispose of the dog waste. Often the bins are overflowing with a number of bags discarded on the floor.

Come on High Peak Council – sort this out!!!

On a lighter note a I was amused when on a recent trip to prague, the local council actually provides little paper bags and cardboard scoops for dog walkers, perhaps we could take a leaf out of there book !

One of my favorite weekend pass time is a lazy morning followed by a bracing work will my dog and hubby. Every Week end I’m going to post fantastic places to go that have a different edge to them away from the push bikes and prams.
History fact: The reservoirs were completed in 1877 and were the largest artificial expanses of water in the world at that time.

Longdendale Trail

You can find the Longdendale Trail within the Peak District National Park – south of the A628 and north of the town of Glossop. The good thing is that as it’s made up of 5 reservoirs you can gauge how hard or how long you want to walk for. The best time to really go is either first thing on Saturday or Sunday morning. By the afternoon you get all the day trippers

The trail is about 13 miles circular around all 5 rivers starting from Hadfield, Derbyshire to Woodhead Tunnel before crossing the A628 towards the Yorkshire border at Salter’s Brook and back. Like I said thought the good thing is that you can time it to what you suite and all the reservoirs are a circle route back on your self. Depending on how fast you walk you can average one reservoir all the way round in about 45 minute.
I have been walking here fro years as I am lucky to have it right on my door step. If like me you are a regarded there are many a little path to take you off the beaten track – but first timer better stick to what is officially there

The route follows what was the Manchester to Sheffield railway and to get started find it via Platt Street, Hadfield, Torside Car Park.
